01You can wear every colour

Did you know that you can wear all colours? Yes blue. Yes red. Yes green and yellow.

It is the specific tone and intensity of the colour that counts — whether the blue that you choose is warm or cool, bright or muted, light or dark.

There is a palette of colours that corresponds to the particular balance between your skin, hair and eye colour. These are colours that bring you into harmony with what you are wearing, that point you in the direction of your own unique style and expression. All the colours in your palette belong to the same harmony group, which means they work beautifully together while still allowing for unexpected and exciting combinations.

I am here to help you discover, or tease you into discovering, your own colour palette and to teach you how to really understand it and use it practically. It will make your wardrobe more cohesive, more harmonious, but it can also make your wardrobe more exciting. Knowing and understanding your colours gives you the confidence to use colour with greater boldness, rather than hiding behind black or believing that black is the only neutral that suits the accent colours you want to experiment with.

It also makes getting dressed, combining pieces and buying new clothes easier and less overwhelming. Instead of a wardrobe full of individual items, you begin to build a wardrobe of colours and pieces that work together. Over time, this also means buying fewer things that don’t quite work and making better use of the clothes you already own.

02Meet Rentia

I was born and raised in South Africa, where colour, landscape and texture have always shaped my sense of identity and creativity. I began my journey in the arts, first studying Fine Art and later Literature and Journalism. Storytelling eventually became my work, but also a way of understanding how people make meaning of the world around them and express who they are.

Colour Story grew from this curiosity and from my work as a colour analyst. I believe colour is an incredibly powerful tool. It can ignite us emotionally, affect our mood and connect us to memories of people, places and experiences. But colour is also cultural. The meanings we attach to colours are shaped by where we come from, the cultures and communities we are part of, and our own lived experiences. I am fascinated by the stories we tell through colour, and by how we can use it to express something of who we are.

03The colour consultation

A process of discovering your colours together.

We start with a conversation about your style, your lifestyle, your experiences with colour and what you would like to get out of the consultation. I will also introduce you to the methodology I use and some of the colour theory behind it.

Then we move into the draping process. Using more than 90 precision-dyed drapes, we compare colours against your skin to understand how differences in undertone, intensity and depth affect your appearance. Through this process, we identify the colour harmony that corresponds most closely to your natural colouring.

Once we know your colours, we explore the palette together: how the colours relate to one another, which combinations excite you and what the palette means for the clothes you already own and the choices you make going forward. We look at wardrobe basics and neutrals, metals, textures, patterns, hair colour and makeup and importantly how to make the palette your own.

At the end of the consultation, your palette is loaded onto the Colour Story Club, your personal digital colour companion. Here you can explore your colours in more depth, understand their individual characteristics and stories, create your own colour combinations and palettes, and have your colours with you whenever you shop.
